In the world of professional wrestling, the independent scene is often a breeding ground for talent, but it's also a challenging environment with its fair share of issues. Enter Ben Bishop, a towering figure in the industry, who has some thoughts on how to improve the indie experience.
The Basics Matter
Bishop, known for his imposing stature and ring prowess, highlights the importance of basic necessities in independent wrestling. He believes that providing fundamental amenities like water and a comfortable locker room can significantly impact the overall experience.
"The big joke in independent wrestling is that water is for the boys. It's a basic need, and every promoter should ensure it's available," Bishop explains. He emphasizes that these little details can make a big difference in the overall satisfaction of the wrestlers and, consequently, the quality of the show.
Timing is Everything
Beyond the basic amenities, Bishop also stresses the importance of timing. He suggests that shows should be kept to a reasonable duration, ideally not exceeding 2 1/2 hours, with showcase events stretching to a maximum of three hours.
"People want to enjoy wrestling and then move on with their evening. They want to leave wanting more, not feeling exhausted or rushed," he says.
The ACW Advantage
Bishop has found a home at Awesome Championship Wrestling (ACW), where he believes the attention to detail sets it apart from other indie promotions. The MJN Center, where ACW hosts its events, offers a beautiful venue with ample space, comfortable seating, and even couches.
"The locker room is a happy place at ACW. With snacks, food, and catering, everyone is well-fed and hydrated. It's these little things that make a big difference in the overall morale and, ultimately, the quality of the show," Bishop observes.
A Personal Perspective
As someone who has experienced the highs and lows of the independent scene, Bishop's insights offer a unique perspective. He has seen the best and worst that indie wrestling has to offer, and his suggestions are rooted in a desire to elevate the entire industry.
"When it comes to ACW, they've got it right. They understand the importance of the little things, and it shows in the product they put out. It's a pleasure to be a part of a promotion that values its wrestlers and the overall experience," he concludes.
So, while the independent wrestling scene may have its challenges, with the right attention to detail and a focus on the basics, it can thrive and provide an enjoyable experience for wrestlers and fans alike.
